LIME TREE OF GRETTSTADT

Apart from dancing lime trees, three other types of lime trees can be found in the countryside and in villages and towns :
- Simple lime trees, also called village lime trees.
- Justice lime trees : in past times the legal business of the village was dealt with under the lime tree’s branches.
- Storied lime trees : lime trees whose branches were trained horizontally to create up to three stories or more. This photo is of the outstanding Grettstadt lime tree, which has ten stories.

The district of Grettstadt is located in the Schweinfurt region of German Bavaria. It includes the villages of Dürrfeld, Grettstadt, Obereuerheim and Untereuerheim. The beautiful monuments to be seen in the area include an outstanding lime tree several hundred years old that boasts ten levels.
