Feminine Tree

A “Feminine Tree”, the lime often plays an essential role in myths, fairy tales, legends and in popular customs. Its popularity is legendary. The legend of Philemon and Baucis, for example, recounts how this couple was turned into an oak tree and a lime tree, which symbolised their great love for one another. In the epic poem the Niebelungenlied, the mother of the hero Siegfried is called Sieglinde. This name can be translated as “lime tree of victory”, “sweet victory”, or simply “lady of the lime tree”.

It's correspondence masculine - the oak. All French schoolchildren learn of how good King Louis dispensed justice and medicine beneath an oak tree. This tree, the complement of the feminine dance lime tree, was known as the “Oak of the Constellations” ®. Unlike the dance lime tree, which was planted in the centre of the village, the oak tree was planted in a more out of the way place, outside the village, and was place where wise men met.
